Founded as a solution to streamline security camera maintenance, AI-RGUS, has grown into a leader in AI-driven security system management. We recently sat down with Joelle Grunblatt, Chief Operating Officer, and Erez Sharoni, Vice President of Sales, to explore the story behind AI-RGUS, its evolution, and its vision for the future.
The Genesis of AI-RGUS
AI-RGUS began as a project to address a specific challenge at Duke University. Joelle Grunblatt shared the origins: “AI-RGUS was initially developed as an AI software solution for security camera maintenance at Duke University. Staff spent hours daily reviewing camera footage, searching for outages, and keeping security tight. With AI-RGUS, they reduced the time spent checking their security system health from 4-5 hours to several minutes.”
Today, AI-RGUS supports over 100,000 cameras and has expanded its capabilities to provide comprehensive visibility into the operation and cybersecurity of security systems.
From Duke University to Industry Leader
The experience at Duke University profoundly influenced AI-RGUS’s direction. Joelle explained, “Originally created to address Duke University’s own security system management challenges, it gave us insight into the needs of a large security operation. We further learned existing system management practices so that we can develop our software to fit seamlessly into a security operation and provide value from the first day.”
This early insight allowed AI-RGUS to create a solution that not only enhances security but also offers a proactive approach to maintenance. Joelle added, “AI-RGUS is an opportunity for security professionals to be proactive in their security camera maintenance. Additionally, managed service providers can leverage AI-RGUS to earn Recurring Monthly Revenue (RMR) for their business.”
How AI-RGUS Enhances Security Camera Maintenance
At its core, AI-RGUS uses artificial intelligence to automate and optimize security camera maintenance. Joelle elaborated, “AI-RGUS automatically alerts of any problems, including cameras down, unclear views, blurry views, blocked views, tilted or changed scenes, missing recordings, and time stamp correctness. When you buy a security camera system, you expect it to work when you need it and to have evidence after any incidents. AI-RGUS enables you to be proactive about maintenance and assists compliance efforts through performance reports.”
Standing Out in the Market
Erez Sharoni highlighted what sets AI-RGUS apart from other solutions: “Recurring Monthly Revenue (RMR) is key for managed service providers to maintain sustainable growth. AI-RGUS is a high-value add for customers that creates an ongoing revenue stream for service providers through automated, accurate alerts and configurable and brandable reports. The solution is SOC2-type II compliant and aligned with HIPAA privacy guidelines.”
Industry Recognition and Credibility
In 2023, AI-RGUS was recognized by the Security Industry Association (SIA), a milestone that solidified its reputation. Erez shared, “Being recognized by SIA cemented AI-RGUS as a standard in the security industry. We received the ‘Managed Services’ Award, which solidified our reputation as a trusted leader in AI-driven innovation. For our current customers, this reassures them that they’re invested in a best-in-class solution. It opens the doors to new partnerships and strengthens our credibility.”
Transforming the Future of Security
AI-RGUS is not just solving current challenges but also shaping the future of the surveillance and security industries. Erez explained, “AI-RGUS has already played a transformative role in surveillance and security. Companies are no longer satisfied with only installing cameras and just hoping that the cameras will work when they need them. They need to ensure that the cameras are operational. AI-RGUS eliminates the guesswork, drives efficiency for security teams, and strengthens the overall security posture and compliance of facilities.”
Client Success Stories
The impact of AI-RGUS is evident in the feedback from its clients. Erez shared two notable testimonials
“AI-RGUS creates revenue by itself by saving labor on the IT and technician side, leaving said technical/help desk staff to create additional forms of revenue and overall improvements.” – Ilan Frank, Founder of Crime Alert Security
“Before AI-RGUS, camera maintenance was extremely labor-intensive, and scalability was our core concern. However, after seeing the software’s effectiveness in detecting camera malfunctions, we could add 10,000 more cameras tomorrow and encounter zero problems.” – Michael Loumos, COO & President of Alpha Video Surveillance
Addressing Industry Challenges
AI-RGUS tackles common challenges faced by organizations in maintaining their security camera systems. Erez detailed, “AI-RGUS uses artificial intelligence to compare the expected image of a camera with the actual, real-time image. In addition to flagging cameras that are broken, offline, or not recording, AI-RGUS detects image problems like block, blur, tilt, low-light, etc. Our comprehensive reporting features give performance insights for the entire system so that you can be sure that you will have the video evidence that you expect to have.”
Looking Ahead: Expansion and Innovation
AI-RGUS is committed to continuous improvement and expansion. Joelle shared, “AI-RGUS is continuously adding new integrations and device capabilities to be functional across most (or all) security systems. We have ongoing development of robust reporting tools so that security teams have the data needed to maintain a reliable security system.”
Erez also emphasized the role of AI in the future of security: “AI is helpful for automating tasks, and it’s getting increasingly good at efficiently completing tasks. At AI-RGUS, we’re prioritizing seamless integration to provide organizations with smarter, faster, and more reliable surveillance management. Using AI for problem discovery frees up security staff to focus on addressing existing security challenges.”
What’s Next for AI-RGUS?
The company is set to make waves at this year’s ISC West show. Erez revealed, “At ISC West, AI-RGUS is debuting our capability to be a full-service security system maintenance solution. We have expanded our integrations list, and we bring plenty of resources to learn about offering AI-RGUS as a managed service to your customers.”
As Joelle and Erez highlighted, the future of security is not just about installing cameras—it’s about ensuring they work when it matters most. AI-RGUS is leading the charge in making that vision a reality.
