Oklahoma-based security integrator Orion Security Solutions (OSS), led by President & CEO Sean Crain, recently sat down with SVIP to share insights on navigating industry challenges and the future of security integration. Below is the full Q&A, where Crain offers candid and thought-provoking perspectives on the evolving landscape of security solutions.
What sets Orion Security apart from other security integrators in the industry?
“Unmatched pedigree of experience designing and deploying enterprise security and surveillance solutions in challenging environments across the world and throughout the U.S. Our Core Competency Statement and other information on our website provide additional insight into our experience that includes working with U.S. Presidents and Secretaries of State, working in U.S. Embassies and government facilities, and other counterintelligence and anti-terrorism-related activities. We gained expertise in leveraging technical security solutions—both traditional and non-traditional—to support counterintelligence and anti-terrorism objectives. OSS also sets itself apart by having expertise with artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge security technologies, in addition to its expertise in designing and deploying enterprise networks to support related systems.”
How have security integrators evolved over the years, and how has Orion adapted to those changes?
“I don’t think many have evolved well, which is one big advantage to partnering with OSS. Successful integrators have had to expand their knowledge of enterprise networks, virtual server architectures, artificial intelligence platforms and solutions, and other related changes that the industry is driving. OSS focuses on advances in consumer electronics and other occupational trends since that is what historically has successfully predicted what will be coming next with security solutions.”
What are some of the biggest challenges integrators face today when designing and deploying security solutions?
“Being fluid and intelligent about which emerging technologies to embrace and how to gain needed knowledge to successfully design and deploy them.”
How does Orion Security approach integrating new technologies like AI, cloud-based solutions, and automation into security systems?
“Watching trends, meeting with manufacturers, testing new solutions, and analyzing valid business cases for the emerging solutions.”
What do you look for when selecting manufacturers and technology partners for your solutions?
“Scalability, robust business infrastructure—engineering, support, etc.—solution value and benefits, and how it fits or not with OSS client needs and goals.”
How do you ensure seamless collaboration between manufacturers, end users, and your integration team?
“Doing our best to ensure that everyone stays in their lanes to ensure uniform messaging while facilitating collaboration between all parties to provide lessons learned, past performance, and proper analysis of how a particular solution will benefit the end user.”
What common security challenges do your clients face, and how does Orion help address them?
“Understanding how new technologies will enhance their security posture as new threats and risks emerge. OSS builds strong relationships of trust with its clients and directly engages with them to define solutions to best solve for their objectives.”
What’s your vision for the future of security integrators, and how do you see Orion playing a role in shaping that future?
“I honestly pay very little attention to other security integrators. I see trends and try to understand what separates successful companies from those who struggle. I focus on applying that and other knowledge to elevating OSS. I’m happy to give advice to others, but I focus on OSS and how it can continue to meet and exceed client expectations and how it can continue to emerge, adapt, and elevate to provide sustained elite service and solutions to its clients. The rest of the industry has to work exceptionally hard and be fully committed on a consistent basis to stay relevant because the technology space changes quickly, and new threats emerge pretty consistently.”
