Video surveillance has evolved to become a critical tool for operational efficiency and business insights. Savi Solutions, a cloud-first video platform based out of Farmington, Utah is redefining how multi-site enterprises leverage video data. Under the leadership of Brock Weeks, CEO, Savi has positioned itself as an innovative solution that prioritizes accessibility, scalability, and actionable insights. In a recent interview with SVIP, Brock shared his vision, detailing how the company’s unique architecture, focus on operational use cases, and integration of AI are setting new standards in the video surveillance market.
Making Video Accessible Across Enterprises
Savi emphasizes making video accessible across entire enterprises, a mission that is deeply embedded in its architecture and design. Brock explained:
“In the market we serve, which is a multi-site distributed enterprise, video is predominantly accessed remotely by multiple teams. If the video is stored in an onsite server, any viewing session of recorded video must be pulled from the onsite server and use the local site's bandwidth to do so. This causes spikes in bandwidth usage, which can lead to other services on the network being interrupted, like transactions and other important services, as more needs are being placed on bandwidth.”*
To address this challenge, Savi’s 100% cloud-based architecture ensures that video is pushed offsite in a constant, reliable stream. *“Customers never experience bandwidth spikes, never have essential systems lose bandwidth. And now that all video is stored in the cloud, unlimited concurrent viewers across the company can view video at different times and across different cameras without utilizing the local site's network. Savi unlocks video for the entire company,” Brock added.
What Sets Savi Apart?
When asked what differentiates Savi from competitors, Brock highlighted the company’s unique perspective on video use cases:
“Historically, we’ve seen video serve several specialized use cases for professionals, predominantly in security, liability protection, and loss prevention. While these are extremely important, they aren’t the only use cases video can solve. To many end markets, specifically in the market we serve, operational use cases have a larger impact on the organization.”
Savi’s platform is designed with operational efficiency in mind, offering a clean and functional user experience tailored for cross-functional professionals. “We had to build a business platform with the simplicity of a consumer product. Most of our users are not security professionals spending all day on our platform, but are cross-functional professionals trying to use video for operational uses,” Brock explained.
Enhancing Operational Efficiency with a Cloud-First Approach
Brock shared, “Savi’s cloud-first (and cloud-only) approach gives multi-site enterprises several new sources of operational efficiency. It unlocks video for every person the organization would like to provide access to without any risk to the local network, simplifies onsite server maintenance, and reduces upfront costs. Critically, Savi's approach simplifies integrations to other systems and future proofs sites for future AI adoption, as all processing happens offsite, limiting the need to update, maintain, and replace expensive servers.”
The Role of AI in Savi’s Solutions
AI is a cornerstone of Savi’s platform, providing actionable insights across various business functions. Brock explained:
“At Savi, we’ve focused on AI which does two things for our customers. First, AI should empower team members to be more effective, leading to a quality of life improvement. Second, AI should have a strong operational impact for an entire organization, with a clear ROI. This includes AI features like drive-thru and in-store speed of service tracking, customer conversion and shopper journey metrics, brand compliance, and agent-based exception audits.”
Expanding into New Markets with Series A Funding
With a recent $12 million Series A funding round, Savi is poised for growth. Brock outlined the company’s plans:
“There are three main areas we wanted to make an increased investment in, which led to the capital raise. First, is in product R&D. We made a couple of big bets early on that have played out, including the shift to cloud-based software and the commoditization of AI. Second, we will increase investment in GTM with specific channel and technology partners. Third, we will invest in customer success teams to ensure a strong operating partnership with our customers.”
Tailoring Solutions for Specific Industries
Savi’s solutions are tailored to meet the needs of industries like food and beverage, retail, and others. Brock explained:
“We are laser-focused on unlocking the power of video for multi-site, distributed enterprises. This means we aren’t a great fit for everyone, but for the verticals we serve, we’ve built a platform that can serve the entire business well. This approach has allowed us to execute on a true platform approach, with multiple ROI use cases for our end customers.”
Success Stories: Impacting Clients’ Operations
Brock shared several success stories where Savi’s solutions made a significant impact:
“By consolidating three different services for a high-growth 100-location QSR brand, we saved them over $1.5M in hardware and labor costs on new store builds and increased customer throughput times, leading to over $1.6M in combined revenue gains and cost savings. We also helped a Verizon authorized retailer increase customer conversion rates by 30% by enabling them to identify best practices and training opportunities.”
Measuring Effectiveness
Savi measures its effectiveness through tangible outcomes. “Customers experience quantitative increases in conversion rates, ATV, throughput, and customer satisfaction, or a decrease in loss and safety issues. At the end of the day, customers should be more efficient, profitable, and have improved quality of life from using our solution,” Brock said.
Emerging Trends in Video Surveillance and AI
Looking ahead, Brock foresees significant changes in the video surveillance space:
“Over the next five years, I see a shift in hardware spend, with a decrease in expensive onsite servers and an increase in camera count and IoT sensors. Customer behavior will transition from reviewing video to reviewing suggested action items based on AI insights. Finally, we’ll see a consolidation of point solutions into platforms, driving down costs for consumers.”
Primary Goals for Savi Solutions
Brock’s primary goal for Savi is rooted in the company’s guiding principle: “We believe that people matter. We need to provide value to the people we work with, from our employees to our partners and customers. If we stay focused on that, we’ll help 100,000+ locations and operators in North America and beyond become a little more ‘Savi’ with the way they use video.”
It is clear that under Brock’s leadership, Savi is empowering enterprises with a unique advantage to unlock the full potential of their video data. As the company continues to innovate and expand, its impact on the industry is set to grow exponentially.
